Well, maybe sometimes panic is good. We've got a scary bad tornado-spawning storm a'comin' this way this afternoon, and so if you've got kids in the Trussvegas school system, be aware that they've announced everything's closing at noon and there will be no afterschool activities today. As opposed to the usual blather the teevee stations seem to have become increasingly engaged in when there's even a hint of a shower, this looks to be the real thing, and a real bad thing at that.
Keep an eye out today, and stay safe.
Posted by Terry Oglesby at March 1, 2007 09:46 AMWe heard our first siren a few minutes ago. Nothing has come of it.
It must have been high. I'm not seeing any banners for coordinates crossing the screen.
Posted by: Janis Gore at March 1, 2007 10:12 AMI don't know if they're making this nationwide, but I know in our local area they are going to start localizing the siren warnings a bit more, to keep people from becoming complacent. The counties are so large that if a warning is issued due to a storm on one side, it might never even be cloudy or rainy on the other side, and there are some folks who have decided that the sirens don't mean anything. So the NWS is instituting a change to only sound sirens within a restricted area in case of a warning, rather than the entire region.
Posted by: Terry Oglesby at March 1, 2007 10:21 AMWe're under that same watch, and they are predicting that we could have hail "the size of tennis balls."
Posted by: Kathy at March 1, 2007 10:54 AMI sure wish Maria Sharapova was here to protect me.
Posted by: Terry Oglesby at March 1, 2007 11:18 AMThe son of a friend is good buds with a local weather guy. The WG told him this one is for real.
Posted by: Larry Anderson at March 1, 2007 11:48 AMThus, I repeat my wish.
Posted by: Terry Oglesby at March 1, 2007 11:54 AMYa'll are pickers in weather woes, we gots SNOW!, deep, deep SNOW! Um you think that's why they call it MinniSnowTa? Posted by: Chef Tony at March 1, 2007 06:06 PMIt was bad enough--although we had to spend nearly the entire afternoon in the hallway even though the wind barely blew at our building, there have been 13 deaths so far today in the state, with at least 8 of them occurring at Enterprise High School.
Our prayers with those families who have suffered this terrible loss.
