A nice article from The Birmingham News about the life of well-known local artist Carl Salter.
If you live in Birmingham, I guarantee you've seen one of his paintings of the local architectural landmarks.
Posted by Terry Oglesby at May 5, 2005 10:36 AMYes, Carl Salter was a real fixture when I came to B'ham in the late '70s. I had at one time wanted to buy a print of his but it may be too late now.
He will be missed.
Posted by: Stan at May 5, 2005 10:57 AMSome of his stuff was up at the Montgomery museum when I was there around the first of January. I liked it.
Posted by: the Glory Girl at May 5, 2005 11:59 AMI have four of Carl Salters paintings. I was on the internet about 3 weeks ago looking for a site to purchase more paintings. When I read about his death it saddened me. His paintings help keep my childhood memories alive.
Thanks CARL!!!
I hate to hear that. I've wanted to get some of his prints too but have had a hard time finding them. Anybody know where I can find them??

Posted by: Terry Oglesby at August 2, 2005 03:54 PM I have a print by Carl Salter that I bought at an estate sale in the South. It is of a homeplace named Arlington presumably in the Birmingham, Alabama area.
I would like some information about this artist.
I have searched several sights and can find nothing.
Can anyone please help with my search?
::sigh:: I wish the Birmingham News wouldn't mess with the links when stories go to archive.
ANYway, Janet, you might want to contact the News and ask for a reprint of the article (or you should be able to find it if you have access to Lexis-Nexis), and you might contact the Linn-Henley Research Library here in Birmingham and see what sorts of information they might have.
Mr. Salter was a well-known local artist who painted pictures of local landmarks, such as the picture you have of Arlington. (Here's the link to the Arlington website.)
