Now maybe it's just me...

...but since when is a "heat wave" something that's only been going on for a day?

East swelters in 2nd day of heat wave

And since when is a heat wave only two days long? "[...] Cooler weather and storms were forecast by Wednesday. [...]"

Newspapers--struggling mightily to become as useful as spam.

Maybe Mr. Skinnydan can tell us how "sweltered" he's getting. Here in Piedmont NC we're mid-90's and still struggling with drought conditions.

That is a neat word - swelter. From Mirriam-Webster:
Etymology: Middle English sweltren, frequentative of swelten to die, be overcome by heat, from Old English sweltan to die; akin to Gothic swiltan to die.

While newspapers may experience some "swelten", this blurb was from the mighty AP, who will keep on churning out blather as long as big sites like Yahoo pay them.

I would be happy to share tales of the sweltren (in ritzier zip codes here in NY, I assume it's Swelltren? Or is that a bygone era?), save one minor detail.

I am in fact a Morlock, and very rarely see the light of day. I'm in a dungeon with no windows, and the temperature is a very pleasant 68 degrees. I will say even I, the great cheapskate, turned on the AC in the car today, and &^%$ the fuel economy. It was hot & muggy by 7AM, which is not my idea of fun.

Things were so much simpler when we all lived in caves.
