"And I thought, at this age and stage of my career, what the hell."
Courage.
(Which is what it takes to read the whole story without drowning in the whole mawkish, unintentionally ironic, maudlin, overweeningly prideful, fatuous incomprehensibility of it all.)
Posted by Terry Oglesby at May 16, 2007 01:41 PMYou must be writing about Dan Rather. Thought I'd guess without reading the story.
Posted by: southtrek at May 16, 2007 01:58 PMRather obvious, I guess.

Posted by: skinnydan at May 16, 2007 03:35 PMI thought mawkish and fatuous were appropriate word choices there. Perhaps "ingrown" would also be a good word to describe Hollywood and the media, judging by that tale.
Posted by: Stan at May 16, 2007 04:29 PMWell, Skinnydan, as we say down here, "Just because the cat had kittens in the oven don't mean we call 'em biscuits." Dan might have an authentic truck he drives around in, but I am certain everyone at the gas station and hardware store and beauty salon all laugh at him when he drives away.
And Stan, I think we could wear out a thesaurus looking up symonyms for this steaming pile. (And no, I'm not sure if I'm talking about the article, the author, or his subject.)
