WE NEED DR. POSSUM!
We've just now shone the Possum Signal onto some convenient low-hanging clouds outside the window, and quicker than a flash (Not The Flash, but a flash, and not a particularly quick flash, but a rather slowish flash similar to the blinking of my battery recharge light on my electric razor) he has shown up on our doorstep, ready to answer YOUR questions on life, love, medicine, art, politics, wildlife, swimwear, and all other things!
As you all know, Dr. Possum is the wisest of all wise men* (aside from Dick Cheney) and enjoys taking some time out of his busy day to come by here to help you figure out your troubles and provide honest, succinct answers to all your questions.
SO, what's your deal? Wondering what that weird smell is? Trying to come up with an explanation for various mysteries? Looking for your keys? ASK DR. POSSUM!™
*Standard Disclaimer--Dr. Possum doesn't exist as you and I do, and so his help, although of the greatest helpiness, should not be construed as authoritative in the strictest sense, or, for that matter, in any sense. However, do not let this stand in your way of asking questions, because you never know, he might actually be right. Or not.
So doc—tell me what you think of acupuncture. I like Chinese food will this stuff cure what ails me?
Posted by: jim at May 15, 2007 09:53 AMJim, for this one, I defer to the other person who claims to be the World's Smartest Human, namely the Straight Dope's Cecil Adams, who puts acupuncture right up there with homeopathy and phrenology.
Personally, I am a big fan of virtual acupuncture. For a small fee, I will examine your case history, then will apply virtual acupuncture needles to the portions of your body that will promote healing. There is no pain or discomfort since it is done completely by e-mail and does not rely upon old fashioned, real needles.

Have you considered counseling with Eldest, bringing in an "impartial" party, as if she'd listen to someone like that?
Is Spam Lite best accompanied with Diet Coke?
Posted by: Marc V at May 15, 2007 10:25 AMMarc, fools fall in love because it's easier to fall than climb.
The smokey, salty, savory Spam Lite is best accompanied by a warm molasses and malt vinegar toddy.
And as for the site proprietor's oldest child? Thank goodness I don't make house calls or keep regular office hours, otherwise I fear I would be roped into providing expert advice on this matter. As it is, my only advice to him so far is that it's never a good idea to negotiate with terrorists.
Posted by: Dr. Possum at May 15, 2007 10:38 AMDoc Possum, I'm taking your advice, and the advice of other paid professionals about not negotiating with terrorists, even those that might be related to you. My terrorist is 23 and displays far too many of the symptoms related by the proprietor here of one of his progeny.

Posted by: Dr. Possum at May 15, 2007 01:41 PMShould I switch over to a Boss 302 w/a dry sump for my 50 quart mixer? It's either more horsepower or a bigger mixer...
Posted by: Chef tony at May 15, 2007 10:54 PMTony, it depends--as you know, those free-flowing heads and big ol' Holley carb make the Boss 302 work best in the upper RPM range. If you're doing a lot of stop and go mixing, it's probably not the best choice, with a lot of bog and not a lot of torque from idle up to about 4,000 RPM. If you're keeping the mixer running up on the cam for extended periods, this engine might be an okay choice, but personally, I think you'd be happier with something torquier down low. If you want to keep with FoMoCo, folks have really gotten behind the 460 for a workable combination of good low speed torque with enough displacement to make good upper RPM range horsepower. It doesn't wind up as high as a Boss would, and it's a lot heavier, but in a stationary application, cornering dynamics aren't as important.
