The Man be keeping me down.

I'm standing out in the middle of a raging [vulgar barnyard reference] storm around here today, and I just can't get five minutes together to post anything like the usual long rambling cavalcade of stupidity I usually post.

This, then, is the brief version:

I didn't have a good time on our trip, but then again, it's never been fun, so, you know, it was about the same as usual.

Oh, and we went and bought a washer and dryer yesterday.

There you are. Apologies for the lack of happy peppy fun.

C'mon, hon. The new appliances are nice, aren't they?

What did you buy?

We had to satisfy ourselves with this and this. And we also got the lovely buyer protection plan.

Upsides?

Well, they were having a 12 months same as cash promotion, and new credit card applications got you an extra 10% discount and delivery is free (after mail-in rebate).

And that's about it.

Roper is a Canadian brand, isn't it?

Which isn't a fault.

The dryer was fine and I hope the new washer will be. We got bought Saturday. Tuesday, Sears said, it would be here.

Roper is Canadian and was bought by Whirlpool in 1987, and their stuff is made by Whirlpool--the same models by Whirlpool would have been about $75 more each. Best as I can tell, the guts are the same, but the trim isn't as nice. And you don't see wall-to-wall advertising for Roper.

Apparently Easter is the time for major appliance purchases.

Either it’s time for major appliance buys or someone is something is targeting bloggers.
Since you enjoy laundry so much does this count as a leisure purchase?

Posted by: jim at April 9, 2007 02:15 PM

Possibly so. Laundry is, after all, right up there with nights spent weeping bitter, bitter tears into my pillow and counting down the number of days until insolvency as one of my primary leisure activities.

Insolvency should be no problem. Just borrow past the amount you could ever repay and then claim you ought to be relieved of the debt because the bank enticed you.
PS
I paid cash for mine but the check hasn't cleared yet.

What is this "cash" you speak of!?

My washer is 11 years old now, bought brand new from Lowes. The dryer was built in 1974 and I bought it used in 1992 or thereabouts.

Maybe someday I'll get a matched set...

Buying a washing machine just isn't as fun as buying a lawn mower...

Posted by: BillW at April 9, 2007 03:11 PM

Nate, our dryer actually still works, sorta. It's outlasted two washing machines. I think it's around 19 years old or so. But it's starting to leave marks on the clothing, and someone has been complaining about it.

And Bill, I'd rather not have to buy either, since they rob funds from buying stuff for old square Swedish cars.

Sears had better stop being this way –it could ruin their reputation.
They were to deliver the washer today between 11 and 3. They called and asked if they could come early. My wife was home and said they were efficient, polite and didn’t create a mess. Now for some laundry fun!!

Could we bring some over to your house? I'm afraid to ask my in-laws again.

Come on—the drive might be pretty this time of year. BTW when are yours getting installed—you don’t have to do that yourself do you?

Posted by: jim at April 10, 2007 12:18 PM

Supposed to be Thursday, sometime between 2 and 7. Hopefully that's p.m.
