Awww, how cute.

Lawyer: Flag burning prank, not politics

Well, as I said yesterday, they shouldn't be seen as anything other than three trespassing, private-property-destroying imbeciles. No matter whether it's political or not, they still set fire to something on someone's property, and they need to be punished. And deportation seems like a nice way to punish the two who aren't citizens. As for the citizen-moron, I figure making him wash fire trucks for a couple of months should instill in him a proper respect for flammables and other folk's stuff.

Felony arson usually gets you more than a couple of months washing the fire truck. I remember that in NC, it was a life sentence.

I think they must have been charged with something lesser. Connecticut has a statute against reckless burning, which is a class D felony, and is defined (in simple form) as starting a fire that could damage a building. All the other types of arson (1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree) all involve setting fire to a building. The note on the link says that at one time it was listed as a class A misdemeanor, but best as I can tell, as a class D, it carries a maximum sentence of five years. I doubt they'll do that much to him since this is his first offense, and he is a big idiot.
