If you have to explain something like that...

This story about a story makes me laugh. Okay, it sorta made me smile. Or grimace. Hard to tell.

But, no matter. I think it's pretty sad that the AP, or any news organization, for that matter, deems it necessary to once more do an obligatory explanation at the bottom of an article about what this "blogging" is all about. I thought these news-type people took pride that their material was an essential read for bright, intelligent people.

Frankly, if your idea of bright, intelligent people are those people who in the year 2007 have no idea what a blog is, you're pretty much announcing your own irrelevance. (Even more so if you can't do a better job of it than what was quoted in the article. Even more moreso in that the electronic version is absolutely worthless for wrapping fish OR lining a bird cage.)

What's this "niche" thing they mention and exctly why are you directing your Blog to such a group? More importantly, what if I don't want to be part of your "niche"? Must I stop reading PB? Actually, I only "scan" it now so stopping might neither be that difficult nor even leave blackmarks on the screen.

Well, Larry--there are niches, and then there are niches. And then there is Nietzsche. And Nisie. And Nissan. And Nisan. The target readership of Possumblog are those who have at least a passing interest in one or more of those things, and/or any of the various vowels and consonants they contain.

Or not.

Therefore, I can safely say that you are indeed part of the niche market for Possumblog, or not, and urge that you continue your subscription for another year, or not. If you DO decide to resubscribe now, you will be able to enjoy Possumblog for less than half the newsstand price! Maybe.

So, yes, what was the question?
