Via Hemmings weekly newsletter: Big-block ringer
Tired of being in a crowd and unable to determine whose cell phone is ringing? Here’s a way to be different… very different.
How does the sound of a 427 big-block Chevrolet sound? If you’re a gearhead, it is music to your ears and far better than that lousy AM radio in your 1969 Impala, which could not drown out those sweet engine sounds if it wanted to.
Unusual Automotive has just the answer: the sounds of the aforementioned 427 and many others, like a big-block at idle, a lumpy cam big V-8, a revved-up, modified engine, a small-block wide open, a V-8 race engine and wide-open throttle. You can also get a chainsaw as your phone’s ringer.
Prices start at a measly $1.50 for the ring tones. For more information, go to www.unusualauto.com or call 888-439-0788.

You should hear the F1 Ferrari r1ngt0nes you can get! They just about make you twist around and jump out of the way of whatever's coming when they go off!
And BTW, "r1ngt0nes" get hung in the spam filter ;0
Posted by: Nate at February 8, 2007 04:14 PMI prefer a vintage Swede with a deep throaty purr, like Ingrid Bergman.
Posted by: kitchen hand at February 8, 2007 05:52 PMYah yah you betcha, Ann Margret is Swedish also. Tall, red hair, great dancer, sings and can cook. *sigh* I can only dream...
PS: Nate, the GT40, Ferrari, Porsche LeMans cars had the best engine sounds, well next to a GE J79 that is.
Tony, back in about 84 I got to attend a WSC endurance race at Silverstone in Jolly Ole England. I spent a big part of the afternoon standing at the fence near the Dunlop bridge, just where the cars come off a long straight and gear down for the final complex of turns before the front straight and the start/finish line.
It was Mercedes V-8s and Jaguar V-12s and multi-turboed Porsches just roaring and whistling and screaming all afternoon. Truly a great day.
Posted by: Nate at February 9, 2007 08:34 AMTerry,
How about the "beep beep" horn from the vintage
ROADRUNNER SUPERBIRDS??
Is that one available.
Thanks
