Wow--there really ARE two Americas!

One made up of people who are justifiably proud of their financial success, and the other of those who are financially successful, but hector all the other rich people for their unseemly avarice while simultaneously trying to pass themselves off as humble champions of the poor and downtrodden in order to get themselves elected President. While sitting on the front porch of their brand new 28,200 square foot mansion on its 102 acre estate.

Nothing wrong with having money.

Nothing wrong with trying to get ahead.

But if I hear one more word about John Edwards' deep empathy for the po' men and women of this country who just can't get a break from those evil corporations and evil Republicans, I swear to goodness I'm going to build my own 28,200 square foot mansion in protest.

If you'd care to donate to my cause, please send me a check for $6,000,000. In fact, I'd settle for half that much.

As an aside, I wonder how many "undocumented workers" the contractor used?

(Thanks to Miss Janis for the heads up, which she found over at Doc Taylor's place.)

I'm waiting to hear what the family has to say about global warming.

I wonder how far the drive is to a grocery store?

But I guess that forested land racks up some carbon credits.

Oh, come now--it doesn't matter if they have to have a mile-long motorcade just to go to the Jitney Jungle, it doesn't matter if they cut down every tree for five miles and stacked them in a big pile and burned them, they can do all those things because they're on the right team.

Which is why I'm ready to switch teams. As long as someone will give me that multi-million dollar check so I can get my own 102 acre estate.

I saw this story last week and meant to write about it. The irony of the circumstance seems completely lost on the former ambulance chaser and v-p wannabe. I agree that he better shutthellup about the "2 Americas" and his close affinity to those that are in the "don't have it" column.

Well, I suppose we should appreciate such bold straight talk about the evils of wealth, seeing as how we're constantly lectured about morality by people such as Ted Kennedy and Jesse Jackson.

Do you know how much upkeep there is on a 102-acre estate and 28,000 sq. ft.?

I wouldn't even want to monitor the estate manager.

Silly Possum. Don't you know you're already part of the America that has it all? All evil, sick, twisted Conservatives are part of the moneyed class, sucking up all the wealth while the poor liberals are suffering in their low-income ghettos of the Upper East Side of Manhattan and Beverly Hills.

I don't know, but as a sacrifice for the American people, I would be willing to take on that burden. Again, a $6 million check will make that happen.

Some of the stations (=ranch) down here are so big you need to take a cut lunch to fetch the mail.

Posted by: kitchen hand at January 30, 2007 04:40 PM

Well, if they're owned by the right type of people (i.e., Socialists nanny-staters), that's entirely okay, and in fact, it would be okay to take a private jet to go pick up the mail, just to save time.

As a completely useless bit of trivia, The Ponderosa was 1,000 square miles, or 640,000 acres.

Link failed. I need servants. Trying again. (I did preview but bits of HTML fell off, like dead leaves.)

Yes, socialists would need to fly their own private jet because they are ethically not allowed to have underlings to do it for them.

Incidentally, Commonwealth Hill is the world's largest sheep station at 10,500 square kilometres. Not sure what that is in fahrenheit but it sounds big enough to need sweeping every day. By servants.

I think Dee, down around comment 81, has it right in that thread.

People who object to hiring cleaners see the work itself as menial and degrading. And probably treat their cleaning people with just about that much respect.

You know, 10,500 square anythings will hold a LOT of sheep.
