KFC tweaks Colonel Sanders logo

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Colonel Sanders is shedding his white suit jacket for a cook's red apron.
KFC unveiled a new brand logo Tuesday that includes bolder colors and a more well-defined visage of the late Kentucky Fried Chicken founder, Colonel Harland Sanders, who will keep his classic black bow tie, glasses and goatee.
"This change gives us a chance not only to make sure we stay relevant but also communicates to customers the realness of Colonel Sanders and the fact that he was a chef," said Gregg Dedrick, president of KFC's U.S. division. [...]
I'd really rather just have some good fried chicken--hot, crunchy crust, big pieces, no backs--for the best possible price, served quickly, in a clean and comfortable environment, by staff who are hard-working and friendly. IS THAT TOO DANGED MUCH TO ASK!?
Posted by Terry Oglesby at November 14, 2006 08:49 AMSounds like you want the Popeye's up the highway from me.
Posted by: Janis Gore at November 14, 2006 09:04 AMYes, well, I'm conflicted by the unreality of Popeye, and the fact that he is a sailor man and not a chef. And the fact that the last time Popeye was even slightly relevant was when Robin Williams played him in the movie Popeye.
Actually, what I'm craving is chicken from a place down in Auburn called Hartz. That there was some good chicken.
Posted by: Terry Oglesby at November 14, 2006 09:08 AMGrandy's! Grandy's has the best fried chicken. Their spicy chicken beats Popeyes by a mile.
I miss Grandy's... http://grandys.com/
I do wonder about KFC promoting "the realness" of a guy that's been dead for years.
Posted by: Nate at November 14, 2006 09:15 AMI find it interesting that when the Birmingham News does a reader poll on who has the best fried chicken in Birmingham, usually the winner is PUBLIX...the grocery store chain. I'm not sure what to make of that--but if I recall correctly they have won two years in a row. Maybe I should go to Publix for lunch?
Posted by: Stan at November 14, 2006 09:38 AMNate, it does seem like they'd do better promoting their chicken instead.
And Stan, that's weird. I've never had their chicken, but based on OTHER grocery store chicken, I can't believe it can be THAT good.
Maybe I should go to Publix for lunch, too.
Posted by: Terry Oglesby at November 14, 2006 10:09 AMMy supermarket, Ukrops, has very good fried chicken.
Posted by: Sarah G. at November 14, 2006 02:00 PMUkrops? UKROPS!?
They don't by chance have a cookbook that say "To Serve Man," do they?
