The amazing stories you find...

...when you have a Google News Alert with the keyword "Volvo"--Woman cited for deer possession

Read it all--and just remember, this took place in Oregon, not around here.

(Because let's face it, if it had occurred here, she would have had the good sense to field dress it before stuffing it in the trunk.)

UPDATE:
But speaking of stereotypes, I think it's best we not even discuss this one.

In Alaska it is illegal to waste food, so if you hit a moose or a deer, you are required to turn it over to authorities for distribution. I think you may be required to field dress it and hang it up too.

You know, I don't think I'd want game that's been car-hit. I mean, there's game, and then there's gamey.

I wouldn't either, but I guess there are those in Alaska who can't afford to be picky. It always made me extra worried about hitting any wild anomals. As if the risk of death to myself wasn't enough, I also had to worry about that fact that if I survived, I didn't know how to field dress or hang the thing.

I say if folks are that bad off, it might be good to remember the old proverb, "Give a man a moose, and he'll eat for a month. Teach a man to drive, and he can eat for a lifetime." Or something like that.

I was going to ask how do field dress a deer, but then I decided to google it myself and I found this nifty site.

My children were, of course, horrified.

"how do YOU field..."

pesky pronouns.

When I was pregnant with The Boy and Justin, still in school, had time to go along with me to all my doctor's appointments, he much enjoyed the fact that the OB maintained a subscription to Field & Stream. He loved reading articles about field dressing deer, bear maulings and other "entertaining" subjects.
