Is there a word for that peculiar feeling you get when you think you might be forgetting something important that you were supposed to do, but you're not really sure if you really ARE forgetting something, or just feeling weird?
All morning I've had that feeling that I was supposed to do something, but I have no idea what it might be. Or even if there really IS something I'm forgetting.

Posted by: Skinnydan at May 4, 2006 02:04 PMWell, see, that's sort of it--it's producing that same odd kind of feeling you get when you think you've been someplace before.

Posted by: Sarah G. at May 4, 2006 02:08 PMHmm--"an acute but unspecific feeling of anxiety; usually reserved for philosophical anxiety about the world or about personal freedom." Very close in the unspecific feeling department, but not when considering the 'usually reserved for' portion.
I may have to invent a word.

(Around here we call it an anxiety attack.)
Posted by: Grouchy Old Yorkie Lady at May 4, 2006 02:40 PMJanis, you may be more right than you know! Whereas Diane is gonna get a lump of coal in her stocking come...uhh...come...what's that winter holiday thing called?
Anyway, as for apprehension or anxiety or angst, it's kinda like that, but it's more of a perturbed or frustrated feeling rather than being one of dread.
Posted by: Terry Oglesby at May 4, 2006 03:01 PMHEY! I think I've got it!
I think I'll call it "lethealgia," from Lethe-the river in Hades that makes you forget everything, and algos, pain. Lethealgia would be the nagging feeling associated with forgetfulness.

Posted by: McGehee at May 4, 2006 05:39 PMThe only good thing about in-store forgetfulness is that I have found a useful byproduct of my propensity to stand and stare vacantly, is that I can use it as an excuse to stand there and stare at attractive women.
Anyway, as it is, I have started not only making a list before I go to the store, but carrying my phone, too. And occasionally one of the children.
