Say, I have an idea!

How would you like a little insight into the type of people I work with?

Sounds like fun, don’t it!

I walked by the refrigerator yesterday (where we have a box for empty aluminum soft drink cans), and noticed the following note taped to the side of the fridge and taped to the wall above the can box (transcribed exactly as written):

To whom this matter concerns:

Thou shall not “STEAL” the Planning Division’s re-cycle able Aluminum cans. This Division is in desperate need of a refrigerator. Re-cycling those cans is one of the ways the subject refrigerator is to be paid for. Therefore this is both a notice and a warning to you. The subject cans belong to the people on this floor only. You may not confiscate these for “your sole profit”. The can crusher should be enough of a clue to you that there is now a guided intended use for the cans. Please be honest and do not take the cans. If you continue to do so, you WILL be caught and its not going to be pretty!

Hmm. Well, you know, insanity rarely is pretty.

Oh, come now - the insanity is due to eating sandwiches with mayonnaise that has curdled due to lack of refrigeration. You do have to feel sorry for them, if the budget is so tight they have to recycle cans to pay for even a cooler with ice. Or have I been in the private sector too long - we view a refrigerator, microwave (we have two) and a nice kitchen area as a basic work requirement - is it not the same in the great halls of government?

What's wrong with the refrigerator next to the can dump?

Somehow, given what I know about the message poster, I would say the condition predates the lack of refrigeration.

As for vital governmental equipment, I think it depends on which department you're in. We are pretty far down on the priority list for such things. But it's not like we don't have a refrigerator that keeps stuff cold--I guess it's just not cold enough or something, but my lunch always stays nice and chilly.

Go figure.

Jordana, it might not be big enough to hold all those body parts or something. I really don't know why it's in such need of replacement.
