Hello again, America (and other places, too)--

From the windswept heights of Talladega Hill, to the roiling depths of Pinchgut Creek, I once again come to you with ripping good yarns of excitement and danger! And assorted games of "Go Fish"! And lawnmower repair!

Yes, it's all just as good as it sounds--BUT.

In my absence from work, the ignoramuses nice smart people with whom I work continued to pile things to be processed on my desk and stuff them in my inbox. Why? I don't know. They KNEW I was on vacation, and there IS my pseudointellectual cowoker in the office right next door. BUT NO! Let's just keep cramming rolls of drawings and permit applications in Terry's inbox, because we don't have the capacity to figure out that they still need to be acted upon by SOMEONE, even when he's NOT here.

::sigh:: Yes, I am royally peeved. Not because it makes work for me, but because it's not fair to the people who pay our salaries to have this junk lying around waiting, when it could have been done by another staff member.

ANYWAY, instead of regaling you with tales of gales, I've got a buttload of work to do this morning. When I finally do get free of it, I'll have to give you the Cliff's Notes version of the preceding week, mainly because my brain is all mushy.

SO, check back in later, and you'll hear about Date Night, Angelina Jolie, Van Unselling, Antique Shopping, New Quarter, Voluntary Servitude, Housecleaning, Lawn Mower Repair Redux, Tropical Storm Cindy, Wal-Mart Emergency Run, New Quarter Part II, Room Cleaning, The Building Committee Meeting, Post Office/Alabama Power Bill Paying/Chinese Buffet Day, It's My BIRTHDAY!, The Galleria, and DENNIS!

It was a long week.

Welcome back! Happy Birthday!
Did y'all get much bad weather from Hurricane Dennis?

Posted by: Kathy at July 11, 2005 08:14 AM

Not too bad, actually, although this time our power went out at about 3:20 this morning, which it didn't do with Ivan. Very odd. As is the fact that I had to shave with a regular razor this morning, and had to use one of the girl's cans of Skintastic Sparkling Pear shaving gel.

Mmmm.

Welcome back to real life. I almost misread your coming attractions section.

Date Night with Angelina Jolie?

Does Brad Pitt know about this?

Posted by: skinnydan at July 11, 2005 08:49 AM

Ha! I had almost the same thought as the skinny one, but my question was "Does Reba know about this? Oh well...

Glad you made it OK through this storm--hope your power is already back on. We were fortunate--no damage of which I am aware, though I do need to out and check the roof.

I am beginning to weaken in my attitude toward Ms. Jolie. Up until now, I have considered her the female equivalent of a DeTomaso Mangusta--lovely to look at, but potentially fatal if used as intended. But lately she's seeming almost sane. Of course, that could just be an act.

But the date night included a showing of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," thus explaining (partially) what the connection is.

AS FOR THE POWER, I just got an automated phone call at 8:48 from Alabama Power to let me know it was supposed to be back up and working. Called home and sure enough, the answering machine was on, indicating the power was as well. Pretty good, I'd say--only 18 minutes later than what they had estimated. Now if I could only get them to stop showing those commercials with those hideous birds...

We were without power for DAYS with Ivan, but it just flashed off a couple of times yesterday. No damage.

Yay more possum goodness!

And Happy Birthday!

Angelina in her underwear... mmm. My favorite movie this year!

Posted by: Nate at July 11, 2005 10:08 AM

Happy Birthday!

Glad to hear that Dennis seemed to spare you of too much agony. Hope your cold/frozen food-stuffs survived the outage.

I don't know if I would think of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" as a datenight film, but I suppose it would be better than "War of the Worlds".

FULL DISCLOSURE: I might have given the wrong impression, but my birthday was actually on Saturday. I am either 22, 38, 43, or 98.

As for underwear, I wear it every day and no one gets all excited about it. It's really not quite fair.

AND as for the date night movie selection, it seemed to be the best choice of what was available. And actually was pretty good. More or less.

I hope you got some good presents for your birthday. Is that how you managed to rate a date night?

I only posted the unedited photo of the two of us together -- yet.

Oh, the present count comes up later. And the movie was just a happy accident.

And please be careful with the photos, and make sure my large gut is not shown.
