Well, last night was the last night of our VBS. I don't want to be this way, but I sure am glad it's over. Four kids, kept up way past their bedtimes for five nights in a row--well, let's just say it's not conducive to conducting a loving and righteous home life. Tempers get short, words get hot. But, at least they can recite all the sons of Jacob and the fruits of the Spirit. "Patience," "goodness," and "gentleness" all, however, being rather short in supply.
Of course, there is also the stress of the still-simmering ambush episode from earlier in the week, as well as the past few weeks here in the Stupidity Mines, and I found out today that I might not be getting the windshield replaced in the Volvo today as scheduled, because the guy wants to do it at three o'clock, and I have to go take Boy to get his retainer from the braces guy.
And I have a hangnail!
And I got a Diet Coke with Lime by mistake this morning!
I tell you what, life is just FULL of one indignity after another!
(Not really.)
Posted by Terry Oglesby at June 10, 2005 10:11 AMI thought most people liked those Diet Cokes with Lime -- if they like Diet Cokes. Not, of course, that you are most people.
Posted by: Jordana at June 10, 2005 10:28 AMWell, they're okay, but as you know, I am a snob and a purist, and any sorts of added flavors just seem to detract from the whole DC experience.
And I think the biggest disappointment was that I picked it up accidentally, and didn't realize I had gotten something different until I took a big swig of it. It's the same sort of reaction you have when you think you're about to drink water, and you've poured yourself a glass of milk.
Luckily, under the cap I did see that I won another 20 ounce Coke product, so I suppose it all works itself out in the end.
Posted by: Terry Oglesby at June 10, 2005 10:31 AMI hate grabbing the wrong product off the shelf. Did that the other day with sour cream. Kroger was all out of regular and only had light and fat-free garbage in their brand, so I was going to buy another brand. I reached in, grabbed it and then noticed as I was putting away groceries that I'd still bought "lite" sour cream -- and of course paid more for it than had I bought Kroger's store brand. Bah.
Posted by: Jordana at June 10, 2005 10:43 AMThey make Lime Diet Coke? Say it isn't so. The next thing you know they'll be making Coke without nutritious sugar.
Posted by: Larry Anderson at June 10, 2005 10:46 AMI wonder how many people will have a similar reaction when Diet Coke Splenda is out in full force? I think they tried to change the label (have not actually seen one live) by adding some yellow highlights. You know there will be some people who will just grab and chug, and then make faces.
Posted by: MarcV at June 10, 2005 10:48 AMYes, the label is different-ish, but it's gotten to where you have so many choices you have to REALLY look at what you're getting to keep from being grossed out.
Posted by: Terry Oglesby at June 10, 2005 10:55 AMJordana, I have made the mistake of picking up "lite" sour cream, too, and it is nasty stuff.
The big boys (chefs) say stick with the full fat stuff and just use it less often. That's a compromise I can live with.
Posted by: Janis at June 10, 2005 11:01 AMMe too, Janis. I generally buy regular versions of all such products. They just taste so much better.
Posted by: Jordana at June 10, 2005 11:08 AMBoy, am I hungry.
Posted by: Terry Oglesby at June 10, 2005 11:10 AMI am in complete agreement. Nothing tastes, cooks or bakes the same as the real thing.
In my baking it's all about the (butter)fat.
