Yet more messing around.

A certain professor says he prefers having the text block over on the left and the sidebar on the right. I kinda like it the other way around, but not being one to wish eye injury on my readership, may I have a show of hands in the comments about which side you prefer to see the sidebar on?

Comments

I prefer a sidebar on each side, with the text in the middle.

So there! ;)

Seriously, it's your site, do it the way you like it.

Some blogs try for quantity, others, quality.

I try for width.

No particular preference for me, but scanning just now, I can understand how he might prefer it that way.

That boy always be looking for distractions, anyway.

I like it on the right so I don't have to turn my head the 3 nano-degrees to read the post.

Posted by: Larry Anderson at April 6, 2005 04:19 PM

Either way is fine with me because I can see the whole page width on my screen. I guess if I had a smaller screen it might cut off the right side. Do it however YOU like it best.

We had tornado warnings and hail today... probably headed your way.

So far, it seems the public prefers things the right way, so it'll stay that way until it changes again.

And Kathy, the rains already here, and they're predicting bucketsful. Good night to get out and go to church!

I vote for text on left. When it was on the right, it seemed like it didn't wrap or something, and I kept wanting to scroll over to finish the line (must have been a vast right-wing conspiracy!).

Info panel on the left, so that your comments will be leaning to the right (or right of center if you prefer).

Posted by: MarcV at April 6, 2005 05:11 PM

Center would be nice-- I like this better but seem to be in the minority.

Posted by: jim at April 6, 2005 05:29 PM

Either way is okay, but what I really want is for it to look exactly like it always has. This just doesn't shout Possumblog to me the way the old template did.

No, I don't like change very much.

Posted by: Jordana at April 6, 2005 05:56 PM

I prefer the info to the right if I am forced to choose. I agree with Jordana about the change business.

My big question is why the calendar?

Oh, and my seafaring ancesters would be glad to know you use clean burning, renewable whale oil.

Posted by: Sarah G. at April 6, 2005 06:21 PM

Really doesn't matter to me. It's easy to read either way. But, you REALLY need a good picture of a possum for your header.

Posted by: Pammy at April 6, 2005 06:32 PM

I am not sure why, but I think I prefer the text on the right.

Posted by: Stan at April 6, 2005 07:12 PM

Well--now I'm more confused than EVER!

To my eyes, I suppose I like the sidebar to the right. I do miss my old header--I briefly had it up when I first was messing around with the new place, and I might mess around some more with it tomorrow or Friday.

Sarah, the calendar is just part of the template I was using--it's somewhat handy, especially for those of us who can't remember what day it is.

Pammy, possums are much too hideous for polite company to have to see them.

Posted by: Terry O. at April 6, 2005 11:22 PM

My old training tells me it's proper to put the sidebar to the right. We read left to right.

We come here to see what you have to write, not references to other people.

And, if it makes you no difference, I would defer to Dr. Smith, who spends many hours reading student work.

He is an avid reader of yours. Why not count his preference? Besides, how many times has he covered you on the Thursday Three, hon?

Now I've been as unpleasant a commenter as those at Michael Totten's and elsewhere who like to tell you how to dip your free ice cream.

Posted by: Janis at April 6, 2005 11:39 PM

Not references to other people!? So, it really IS all about me!! Cool.

As for deferring to Dr. Smith--he is the reason I moved the sidebar back over to the right. I'm still working on the box at the top, so he might just have to be PATIENT on that score!

"Unpleasant"? Miss Janis, you couldn't be unpleasant no matter how hard you tried!

Posted by: Terry O. at April 7, 2005 12:06 AM

Wanna bet?

Posted by: Janis at April 7, 2005 12:55 AM

Janis, only SOME of you read left to right all the time. :P

I like the sidebar on the right too - just seems correct.

Oh, and Terry, if you use whale oil for power, I suggest based on this story that you head out to the hamptons to stock up.

Posted by: skinnydan at April 7, 2005 08:13 AM

Not on your life, Miss Janis!

And Dan, the Hamptons are too ritzy for my taste--I just go down to the creek and catch mine.

Posted by: Terry O. at April 7, 2005 08:24 AM

Despite my sidebar(s) being stacked left, I prefer yours stacked right.

I have no logical explanation.

Posted by: Kenny at April 7, 2005 01:45 PM

I believe it was Jean Paul Sartre who said, "We don' need no steenkin' logic!"
